  • The USN has awarded Sikorsky a new contract for supply and logistics support to CH-53E and MH-53E helicopters
  • The deal is worth USD717 million and covers 98 components in support of the two aircraft

The US Navy has awarded Sikorsky a USD717 million performance-based logistics (PBL) contract to provide supply and logistics support to CH-53E Super Stallion and MH-53E Sea Dragon heavy-lift helicopters, according to a 5 November company statement.

The firm-fixed-price contract includes repairs, overhauls, spares, obsolescence mitigation, and asset management services over four years. Contract performance is based on material availability metrics with additional incentives added for demand reductions, maintainability enhancements, and aircraft readiness contributions.

Sikorsky spokesperson Melissa Chadwick said on 7 November that one material availability metric is the supply response time (SRT) for meeting all customer material requirements. Another incentive is the contribution to the aircraft’s mission capable rate, she added. This contract has a unique aircraft availability incentive enabled by an improved collaborative toolset that measures the contribution to aircraft availability for end-user customers on the flight-line.

The deal, which has a 50-month base period with no options, is for 98 components in support of the two aircraft. The expanded comprehensive arrangement will cover additional readiness-critical components, including main and tail rotor blades, main gearbox, main rotor head, flight control components, and accessories such as refuelling probe and cargo system components.

Chadwick said this expanded arrangement adds 54 major critical end-items compared with the existing PBL contract, which has 10 items. The new contract also expands a partnership with USN logistics providers, including a public-private partnership with Fleet Readiness Center-East for repairs and overhauls.

The CH-53E is the US Marine Corps’ (USMC’s) helicopter designed for the transport of heavy material and supplies.
