Global SuperTanker, World’s Largest Aerial

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Global SuperTanker - the largest, fastest, and most technologically advanced aerial firefighter in the world - has received interim approval from the U.S. Interagency Airtanker Board (IAB) to fight fires in the United States. The 17-month approval is similar to what has been given to other aerial tankers and is a necessary step for the SuperTanker to compete for contracts in the U.S. and abroad. However, IAB approval is only a first step; the SuperTanker does not currently have a contract with the United States Forest Service (USFS) to fight fires, and pending contracts for large aerial tankers exclude tankers the size of the SuperTanker.

NTSB Report Released: Dennis, WV

On June 23, 2017, about 1315 eastern daylight time, a Hughes 369E, N765KV, operated by Haverfield Aviation Inc, was substantially damaged during a hard landing near Dennis, West Virginia. The commercial pilot was not injured. The external load flight was conducted under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 133. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed for the local flight.

NTSB Report Released: Perryville, MO

On July 1, 2017, about 2036 central daylight time, a Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm BK 117 B2, N238BK, helicopter, landed hard and rolled over during an emergency landing to a field near Perryville, Missouri. The pilot, three crew members, and a passenger received minor injuries, and the helicopter sustained substantial damage. The helicopter was owned and operated by Air Methods Corporation, doing business as Kids Flight, as a 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 135 medical flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident, and a company visual flight rules flight plan was filed. The flight originated from the St. Francis Medical Center (MO50), Cape Girardeau, Missouri, about 2019 and was en route to the St. Louis Children's Hospital (2MU1), St. Louis, Missouri.

Steam Powered Helicopters arrive at the Helicopter Museum

Two unique helicopters, developed to use high grade hydrogen peroxide and a silver catalyst chemical reaction to create high pressure steam driving the rotor system, arrived at the Helicopter Museum on 19th July for restoration and display. Jerry Trimble Helicopters seventh annual touchdown auto contest a success!

McMinnville, OR: Jerry Trimble Helicopters (JTH) held their seventh annual touchdown autorotation competition at the McMinnville airport on June 25, 2017. Thirteen helicopter pilots competed in the event with Ramsay Nicholson CFI Hillsboro Aero, taking first place. Bruce Latvala, test flight pilot at Cessna took a close second with Tizian Gruber CFI Hillsboro Aero taking third. And finally, Trent Vick, CFI Hillsboro Aero taking fourth. Scoring was based on technique, accuracy and slide distance. Trimble flew with all pilots.
