Jerry Trimble Helicopters Offers Prize Money at Autorotation Contest

The 7th Annual Touchdown Autorotation competition will be held on June 25, 2017 at Jerry Trimble Helicopters (JTH). The contest begins at 1000, and an all-you-can eat pancake breakfast is offered at 0700. The cost to enter is $75, and includes a Robinson R-22 helicopter to use in the contest. A $5 donation will be made to the local charity of the pilot’s choice with the purchase of each admission.

NTSB Report Released: Newton, NC

On April 27, 2017, about 1330 eastern daylight time, a Robinson R44 II, N728CB, operated by Chesapeake Bay Helicopters, was substantially damaged during a collision with terrain while maneuvering near Newton, North Carolina. The commercial pilot and crewmember incurred minor injuries. The local aerial observation flight was conducted under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and a company flight plan was filed for the flight that originated from Concord Regional Airport (JQF), Concord, North Carolina, about 1225.

NTSB Report Released: Boothville, LA

On May 2, 2017, about 0635 central daylight time, a Bell 407 helicopter, N457PH, registered to and operated by PHI Helicopters, Inc., Lafayette, Louisiana, made a precautionary landing at Grand Bay receiving station in the Gulf of Mexico, near Boothville, Louisiana, after the pilot noticed a vibration in-flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident.The non-scheduled domestic passenger flight was being conducted under the provisions of Title 14 CFR Part 135, and a company VFR flight plan had been filed and activated. The pilot and four passengers on board the helicopter were not injured.The cross-country flight originated from Boothville (LS08), Louisiana, at 0629, and was en route to Main Pass 311A in the Gulf of Mexico when the accident occurred.

The first fleet of H135s for French emergency medical services is now fully operational

The first aircraft is in service in Toulouse while the second and third helicopters are destined to perform EMS missions in Alençon and Besançon. On April 21, 2017, about 1630 eastern daylight time, a privately owned and operated Bell-Carson Super C-4 helicopter, N865Z, was destroyed by collision with trees, terrain, and a post-crash fire at a private airstrip in Timmonsville, South Carolina. The private pilot was fatally injured. The local flight departed the Huggins Memorial Airport (58J), Timmonsville, South Carolina.
