NTSB Report Released: Hazelhurst, WI

On April 26, 2018, about 2250 central daylight time, a Eurocopter AS 350 B2 helicopter, N127LN, impacted trees and terrain during cruise flight near Hazelhurst, Wisconsin. The pilot and two crewmembers were fatally injured. The helicopter was destroyed during the impact. The helicopter was registered to and operated by Air Methods Corporation as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 repositioning flight. Night visual meteorological conditions were reported in the area about the time of the accident, and the flight was operating on a company visual flight rules flight plan. The flight originated from the Dane County Regional Airport-Truax Field (MSN), near Madison, Wisconsin, about 2104 and was destined for the Howard Young Medical Center Heliport (60WI), near Woodruff, Wisconsin.

DAC INTERNATIONAL’S GDC64 CERTIFIED ON AIRBUS A320 AIRCRAFT

(DAC), a subsidiary of Aero Precision Holdings LP, announced today that a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) has been issued for the GKN Aerospace-Fokker business EFB for iPad solution including DAC International’s Tablet Adapter Interface Unit (TAIU) for the Airbus A320 aircraft. The standard EFB for iPad solution offers two mounts in the cockpit and charging. As an option a free programmable one-way data connection with the ARINC-429 bus and charging is offered via DAC International’s GDC64 TAIU. In this case the customer opted for displaying the own ship position on the iPad, derived from the aircraft Flight Management System (FMS). They now have a flawlessly operating Aircraft Moving Map (AMM) application on the iPad in the cockpit

NTSB Report Released: Albion, NY

On April 24, 2018, about 1403 eastern daylight time, an experimental, amateur-built Mosquito XE helicopter, N911CY, was destroyed by a postimpact fire after a hard landing shortly after takeoff from Gaines Valley Aviation Airport (NY06), Albion, New York. The private pilot was seriously injured. The helicopter was owned and operated by the pilot under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and no flight plan was filed for the local flight.

Metro Aviation expands presence in North Carolina

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s AirCare, a hospital-based air medical program, is the newest member of the Metro Aviation family, joining other North Carolina Metro Aviation programs Vidant EastCare and Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA). In a matter of six months, Metro Aviation procured and refurbished three Airbus EC135P2+ helicopters for the AirCare program. Metro Aviation also hired and trained the pilots and mechanics to be provided, and completed comprehensive training for AirCare’s communication center personnel and medical crew. Metro Aviation begins providing aviation services for AirCare on Wednesday, May 2.

NTSB Report Released: Smethport, PA

On April 8, 2018, about 1711 eastern daylight time, an MD Helicopter 600N, N602BP, operated by High Line Helicopters, LLC, was destroyed when it collided with a wooden power line support structure and terrain in Smethport, Pennsylvania. The commercial pilot was seriously injured and two linemen were fatally injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed for the power line construction flight, which was conducted under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 133. The flight departed an unimproved landing zone adjacent to the accident site.

CANADA CERTIFIES INCREASED GROSS WEIGHT FOR S-92 HELICOPTERS

Japan Coast Guard bolsters fleet with additional H225 order

Berlin, 25 April 2018 – Airbus Helicopters has secured an additional order of one H225 helicopter from the Japan Coast Guard (JCG), bringing JCG’s H225 fleet to ten units. JCG currently operates three AS332s and five H225s, both from the Super Puma family.
