Garmin announces EASA certification for all-in-one ADS-B transponders

Garmin is pleased to announce it has received European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approval of the GTX 345 and GTX 335 all-in-one ADS-B transponders in fixed-wing general aviation aircraft and helicopters. The GTX 345/335 include Extended Squitter (ES) ADS-B Out with options for built-in WAAS, as well as dual-link ADS-B In. The GTX 345/335 are compatible with a wide variety of current and legacy Garmin displays, including select G1000 Integrated Flight Decks. The GTX 345/335 come in an attractive size and form factor, making it easy to replace the most popular transponders in the industry, like the Garmin GTX 327 and many others. Remote options are also available, which are compatible with the GTN 650/750 touchscreen navigators and G1000-equipped aircraft.

NTSB Report Released: Guam

On February 22, 2017, about 1325 local time, a McDonnell-Douglas MD-369A helicopter, N805LA, was substantially damaged during an autorotation to the Pacific Ocean in international waters near Guam. The commercial pilot and the aerial observer were both seriously injured. The aerial observation flight was conducted during daylight visual meteorological conditions.

NTSB Report Released: Chauvin, LA

On February 27, 2017, approximately 1033 central standard time, a Bell 407 helicopter, N1371, owned by GM Leasing of Broussard, Louisiana, and operated by Westwind Helicopters of Santa Fe, Texas, was destroyed when it impacted marshy water about 15 miles southwest of its home base of Houma, Louisiana (HUM). The commercial pilot, who was the sole occupant, sustained fatal injuries. Day visual meteorological conditions prevailed throughout the area and a company flight following plan (via Sky Connect) was activated. The repositioning flight was being conducted under the provisions of Federal Code of Regulations Part 91. The flight originated from Gulf of Mexico (GOM) oil platform South Timbalier (ST37) at 1014.

NTSB Report Released: Archer City, TX

On February 9, 2017, about 1430 central standard time, a Bell – Transworld Helicopter 47D1, N2875F, sustained substantial damage during a forced landing to a field near Archer City, Texas. The pilot received serious injuries. The helicopter was owned and operated by the pilot under the provisions of the 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Day visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident and no flight plan was filed. The flight departed from the pilot's ranch near Holliday, Texas, about 1420.

Helicentre Aviation Modernises National Grid Pipeline Fleet

NTSB Report Released: Firebaugh, CA

On March 1, 2017, about 1030 Pacific standard time, a Bell 206B, N211CS, was substantially damaged during a forced landing following a loss of engine power near Firebaugh, California. The commercial pilot, sole occupant of the helicopter, was not injured. The helicopter was registered to and operated by West Valley Aviation Inc., under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 137. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed for the local aerial application flight, which originated from a nearby staging area about 1 minute prior to the accident.

NTSB Report Released: Holbrook, AZ

On February 18, 2017, about 0800 mountain standard time, a Robinson R22 Beta, N7095A, landed hard in an open field near Holbrook, Arizona, after the pilot experienced a loss of helicopter control while maneuvering. The private pilot/owner operated the helicopter as a 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot and one passenger were not injured. The helicopter was substantially damaged. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the local area flight and no flight plan had been filed. The flight departed from a private residence about 0715 the morning of the accident.
