Curtiss-Wright Introduces New Rugged Network Attached Storage with Type 1 Encryption for Unattended Operations

Posted by jhadmin

ASHBURN, Va. – Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions division today announced its new Unattended Network Storage (UNS) system, a rugged network attached storage (NAS) solution that provides Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) encryption to protect critical data-at-rest (DAR) on unmanned deployed platforms. As the number of sensors on unmanned intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) platforms – such as UAV, UUV, USV, and UGVs – continues to proliferate, the challenge of protecting the critical data collected and stored on those platforms has grown in significance. The UNS prevents unauthorized access to classified information in the event that the unattended platform is lost or stolen. It uses a DAR Type-1 encryptor that is planned to be certified for unattended operations of classified data Top Secret and below. The UNS provides system integrators with a fully rugged off-the-shelf solution that significantly lowers costs and program risk while speeding time to deployment.

NTSB Final Report Released: Orange Springs, FL

Posted by jhadmin

The commercial helicopter pilot had completed 25 to 30 water drops in a fire zone using a firefighting bucket on suspension cables. After refueling, he completed three or four additional drops and then filled and pulled the bucket from the water and immediately felt "a severely out of CG [center of gravity] condition to the right." He assumed that the bucket cables were entangled in the right landing skid, so he released the water from the bucket. The condition persisted, so he rocked the helicopter to attempt to free the cable without success. He then released the cable with the cargo release button and heard the "clunk" sound typically heard when the bucket was released, but then he heard another "clunk." The helicopter then began to spin violently and crashed into the water.
