NTSB Report Released: Delta Junction, AK

The helicopter pilot reported that he was transporting a passenger to a remote drilling site, where a tracked drilling unit was stationed. He reported that he landed into the wind, which necessitated descending over bordering trees into the drilling site. The helicopter touched down on the dirt, and upon lowering the collective, he reported he heard a "bang" and the helicopter slowly started to "pick up a ground wobble." The pilot shutdown the helicopter and both occupants exited without further incident.

U.S. Marine Corps Awards Contract to Lockheed Martin to Begin CH-53K Helicopter Production

Airbus Helicopters and IAR deepen strategic partnership on H215M with 15-year agreement

Universal Avionics Receives FAA Approval for ATN B1 CPDLC for Link 2000+

Tucson, AZ - Universal Avionics Software Version SCN 31.1 for the UniLink UL-800/801 Communications Management Unit (CMU) has received FAA Technical Standard Order (TSO). The software upgrade provides an optional configuration for Aeronautical Telecommunications Network Baseline 1 (ATN B1) Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and Context Management functions required for the European mandate, formerly known as Link 2000+. Frasca Sells CJ1+ FTD to Oxford Aviation Academy

URBANA, IL ---Frasca International, Inc. has received an order for a second CJ1+ Level 5 Flight Training Device (FTD) from CAE Oxford Aviation Academy based in Mesa, Arizona. The FTD will simulate Cessna's popular light business jet. The FTD will be qualified as a Level 5 device and will feature Frasca's Simplicity™ Instructor Operator Station (IOS). The first CJ1+ FTD was delivered in 2013. The two CJ1+ Frasca FTDs will support CAE's MPL (Multi-Crew Pilot License) program for Japan Airlines (JAL). The Mesa location also uses Frasca Piper Archer, Seminole and Diamond DA40 & DA42 FTDs.

NTSB Report Released: Villa Grove, CO

On August 10, 2017, about 1810 mountain daylight time, a Hughes 369D helicopter, N58424, had its tail rotor impact a powerline near Villa Grove, Colorado. The pilot received serious injuries. The helicopter sustained substantial tailboom and fuselage damage. The helicopter was registered to Quicksilver Air Inc. and operated by Patrol Helicopters Inc. as a 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 133 rotorcraft external load flight. Day visual] meteorological conditions prevailed in the area about the time of the accident, and the flight was not operated on a flight plan. The local flight originated from an unknown location.

NTSB Report Released: Solomon, AK

On August 3, 2017, about 1032 Alaska daylight time, a Robinson R-44 Clipper II helicopter, N4138M, impacted water and sank while dropping mineral claim markers about 1 mile south of Solomon, Alaska. The commercial pilot and passenger sustained no injury, and the helicopter sustained substantial damage. The helicopter was registered to, and operated by, Bering Air, Inc., Nome, Alaska, as a visual flight rules flight under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 135 on-demand charter flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident, and company flight following procedures were in effect. The flight originated from the Nome Airport, Nome, about 0845.
