LEONARDO: LIFE FLIGHT NETWORK OF US ORDERS TWO ADDITIONAL AW119KX HELICOPTERS

Leonardo-Finmeccanica announced today that EMS operator Life Flight Network of the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West United States has ordered two additional AgustaWestland AW119Kx aircraft. Totaling nineteen aircraft today, customer’s fleet of AW119Kx helicopters will increase to 21 by the end of the year. Leonardo Helicopters and Life Flight Network also celebrated 20,000 hours reached by operator’s AW119Kx EMS fleet and the occasion was marked with the presentation of a plaque congratulating Life Flight Network on the milestone, which was achieved within three years of the first deliveries.

LEONARDO: FIRST ROYAL NAVY AW101 MERLIN MK4 MAKES ITS MAIDEN FLIGHT

Leonardo-Finmeccanica announced today the first AgustaWestland AW101 Merlin Mk4 successfully completed its maiden flight on 24th October 2016 at its Yeovil facility in southwest England. Leonardo is upgrading 25 Royal Navy Merlin Mk3/3A aircraft to Merlin Mk4/4A standard as part of the Merlin Life Sustainment Programme (MLSP) contract. The MLSP contract is valued at £330 million and was awarded in January 2014 by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD). Deliveries of aircraft will start in 2017 and continue through to 2020 with the work being performed at Leonardo’s Yeovil facility.

Volo Mission acquires twenty-two more acres to increase external load training capability

Campbell, TX – In September, Volo Mission owners Kimberly and Andre Hutchings finalized the purchase of 22 acres of land adjoining Volo’s 38 acre external load training location in Campbell, TX. The additional acreage will allow for further development of training exercises to include two ponds for aerial fire fighting operations. One will be used as a beginner pond for belly bucket training, while the other pond will be located amongst the trees with a live stream feeding into it. This will be used once pilots have built their skill set or for pilots using buckets and long lines. The second pond also simulates what pilots will encounter when dipping from remote water sources while fighting fires.

NAASCO Starter Generator Reliability and Performance

This armature is from a Law Enforcement AS350 starter generator # 150SG122Q that we upgraded to our Mercury Mod configuration about a year ago. The unit has 893 hours of continuous operation. It is important to notice the brushes wear line shows they have more than 50% life remaining with only .003 commutator wear and no carbon dust buildup. That means this particular armature could last up to 50,000 hours under normal operating conditions!
