New STC; FAA approved installation of the EAGLE Generation II Digital Audio System in Cessna 208B’s

Londonderry, NH (April 21, 2017) - Pro Star Aviation, with support from our in-house Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) delegation, is proud to announce we received approval for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) number SA00380BO - Installation of a Geneva Digital Audio System (for Cessna 208B’s) on April 13, 2017. The STC is applicable to Textron Aviation 208B models serial numbers 208B1190 thru 1216 and 208B2000 equipped with a Garmin G1000 Integrated Flight Deck, and supports the installation of Eagle Audio’s (formerly Geneva Aviation) Generation II Digital Audio System, providing for multiple, highly customizable, tactical radio inputs typical for use in law enforcement and special missions operations.

CHC Wins Contract with Providence Resources PLC

ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND, April 24, 2017 – CHC Group (the “Company” or “CHC”) today announced it has signed a new contract with Providence Resources plc (“Providence”) to provide helicopter services in support of its Exploration well program on the Druid/Drombeg prospect in Frontier Exploration Licence 2/14 of the southern Porcupine Basin, Offshore Ireland, some 215 kilometers off the southwest coast of Ireland. The contract will see a dedicated Sikorsky S-92 flying out of Cork Airport beginning this June and will once again see CHC work in conjunction with Lloyd’s Register (“LR”) as the wells project management company.

H145 is best in class for hoist operations with increased engine power

Marignane – Airbus has extended the flight envelope of the H145 by enhancing the helicopter’s OEI power. The acronym OEI stands for “One-engine-inoperative”, measuring the performance of an aircraft with only one engine remaining operative. With the increased power, the light-twin helicopter H145 can accommodate two additional technicians or can fly longer distances during a mission which requires human external cargo (HEC) operations.

BasicMed Begins

General aviation pilots can now prepare to fly under BasicMed without holding a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) medical certificate as long as they meet certain requirements. They can fly under BasicMed beginning on May 1, the effective date of the January 10 final rule. It offers pilots an alternative to the FAA's medical qualification process for third class medical certificates, while keeping general aviation pilots safe and flying affordable.

NTSB Report Released: Reefton, West Coast, New Zealand

On March 27, 2017, about 0345 Universal Time, a Robinson R22, New Zealand registration ZK-IHA, impacted forested terrain about 5.5 miles north of Reefton, West Coast. The pilot, the sole occupant was fatally injured, and the helicopter was substantially damaged. It was reported that the purpose of the flight was a private hunting flight.

FOR COCKPIT VOICE AND FLIGHT RECORDER SYSTEM TO UPGRADE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES’ CH-146 FLEET

ASHBURN, Va. – April 27, 2017 -- Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions division today announced that it was selected by Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Limited to provide its cockpit voice and flight recorder technology to upgrade the cockpit electronics in the Canadian Armed Forces’ fleet of Bell CH-146 Griffon multi-role utility helicopters. Under the agreement, Curtiss-Wright will provide Bell Helicopter Textron Canada with a cockpit voice and flight recorder subsystem, comprising its Fortress 757 Flight Recorder and a Cockpit Area Microphone. The initial contract, which began in mid-2016, runs through to mid-2018 and is valued at $1.88 million. Shipments begin in May 2017.
