NTSB Report Released: Myrtle Beach, SC

On July 24, 2017, about 1316 eastern daylight time, a Robinson R44, N828RD, registered to KHGK LLC, operated by Helicopter Solutions, Inc., dba Helicopter Adventures, was substantially damaged during an autorotative landing near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The commercial pilot and 2 passengers were not injured. The helicopter was operated under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a commercial air tour flight, on a company visual flight rules flight plan. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the local flight, which originated about 1310 from the operator's facility.

NTSB Report Released: Van Nuys, CA

On July 21, 2017, at 1211 Pacific daylight time, a Robinson R44 II, N3254E, landed hard following an autorotation near Van Nuys Airport, Van Nuys, California. The helicopter was registered to and operated by National Helicopter Service and Engineering Company, as a 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 revenue sightseeing flight . The flight instructor and three passengers sustained serious injuries, and the helicopter sustained substantial damage during the landing. The local flight departed Van Nuys about 1112. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan had been filed.

Garmin receives EASA approval for new GTN 650/750 features

Garmin is pleased to announce an expanded feature set, an enhanced user interface and additional wireless connectivity solutions for its popular GTN 650/750 touchscreen navigators. Saving lives with DART’s Cable Cutter System

In a recent video, DART's cable cutter system was used to save an aircraft and its crew from a dangerous wire strike in a rural area of Portugal. Thanks to Portugal's initiative to pass the legislation of a mandatory installation of protection against wire strikes for certain missions, the aircraft was equipped with DART's cable cutter system which helped avoid the worst.

NTSB Report Released: Solomon, AK

On August 3, 2017, about 1032 Alaska daylight time, a Robinson R-44 Clipper II helicopter, N4138M, impacted water and sank while dropping mineral claim markers about 1 mile south of Solomon, Alaska. The commercial pilot and passenger sustained no injury, and the helicopter sustained substantial damage. The helicopter was registered to, and operated by, Bering Air, Inc., Nome, Alaska, as a visual flight rules flight under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 135 on-demand charter flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident, and company flight following procedures were in effect. The flight originated from the Nome Airport, Nome, about 0845.
