DONALDSON DEVELOPS ROBINSON R66 TURBINE HELICOPTER INLET BARRIER FILTER; NEW IBF TO BE ON DISPLAY AT HELI-EXPO 2017

ST. LOUIS – March 1, 2017 – Donaldson Aerospace & Defense, a division of Donaldson Company, Inc. (NYSE: DCI), has developed the first Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) for the Robinson R66 Turbine helicopter. Certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Feb. 24 as an addition to Robinson’s R66 Type Certificate, the IBF will be available as a factory option from Robinson Helicopter Company, authorized Robinson Service Centers, or Donaldson.

FAA Issues Shadin Avionics STC for Robinson R66 Fuel Flow Management

Shadin Avionics recently announced the completion and receipt of Supplemental Type Certificates for the installation of a RemoteFlo Fuel Flow System on the Robinson R66 helicopter and Rolls-Royce RR300 engine. The RemoteFlo offers R66 pilots access to real-time fuel flow management information directly on their GPS or Flight Management System. In addition to Fuel Flow, information available to the pilot includes Specific Range (including graphical range rings), Fuel to Destination, Fuel Reserve, Endurance, Fuel Flow, Fuel Used and Fuel Remaining".

Robinson Delivers Two R44 Cadets to Texas

Torrance, CA — on October 17th, Robinson Helicopter Company delivered two R44 Cadet helicopters (S/Ns 30006 and 30007) to SKY Helicopters, an FAA part 141 flight school, and Robinson’s dealer in Garland, Texas. According to SKY’s President Ken Pyatt, the affordability of the Cadet along with the optional glass technology, HeliSAS Autopilot and air conditioning make it a very appealing trainer. The Cadet’s longer 2400 TBO brings its hourly operating cost closer to the R22, a plus for flight schools and pilots trying to build hours.

FAA Approves Garmin GTX 335 and GTX 345 Transponders for Robinson Helicopters

Torrance, CA — FAA approves Garmin’s GTX 335 and 345 Mode S transponders for use in Robinson R22, R44 and R66 helicopters. The newly approved transponders meet impending ADS-B Out regulations without requiring a standalone GPS. Priced at $3,900, the GTX 335 enables owners and operators to meet impending regulations with minimal expense. At $6,300, the GTX 345 goes a step further by adding ADS-B In and Bluetooth capability.

NTSB Report on El Centro, CA Released

On June 27, 2016, at 2010 Pacific daylight time, a Robinson R44 helicopter, N8325X, experienced a loss of engine power during cruise and made a forced landing to an open field in El Centro, California. Custom Ag operated the helicopter under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 137 as an agricultural crop dusting operation. The pilot, the sole occupant, was not injured. The helicopter sustained substantial damage to the tail boom. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the night local crop dusting flight that departed a private airstrip about 2000, the night of the accident.

NTSB Report on Chatham, MA Released

On June 17, 2016, about 1245 eastern daylight time, a Robinson R44, N141TM, operated by Ryan Rotors, was substantially damaged during a forced landing to a pond, following a total loss of engine power while maneuvering near Chatham, Massachusetts. The commercial pilot and passenger were seriously injured. The local aerial photography flight was conducted under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed for the flight that originated at Plymouth Municipal Airport (PYM), Plymouth, Massachusetts, about 1200.

New Collective-Activated Hour Meter Reduces Operating Costs for R22 Beta II

Previously, the R22 used an oil-pressure-activated meter which records all engine run time. FAA Certifies Auxiliary Fuel Tank for R66 Turbine

Torrance, CA— Robinson Helicopter Company announces an optional 43-gallon auxiliary fuel tank for its R66 Turbine helicopter, extending the helicopter’s range by as much as 200 nautical miles(230 statute miles). The fuel tank mounts on a fiberglass tray that installs in the forward section of the baggage compartment. The tank occupies two-thirds of the compartment, leaving space for up to 100 lb of cargo. Both the tray and tank can be removed when not needed.

Robinson Introduces Glass Avionics

Torrance, CA — Robinson Helicopter Company is introducing a new line of instrument panels and avionics for the R22, R44, and R66. The new line includes, as optional equipment, Garmin’s GTN 600/700 touch-screen navigators, as well as Aspen Avionics’ Primary Flight Display (PFD) and Multifunction Display (MFD) systems. Garmin’s GTR 225B COM radio, GMA 350H audio panel, GDL 88 universal access transceiver (UAT), and GTX 330ES transponder are also available. Robinson completed FAA flight tests and received approval for most of the new equipment and is in the final stages of certification for a few remaining combinations.
