Safran, HeliDax and AMS team up on first complete digital chain for helicopters, based on Cassiopée

At HAI HELI-EXPO 2019, HeliDax, AMS (Aircraft Maintenance Systems) and Safran Electronics & Defense signed a letter of intent to collaborate on a complete digital chain based on the Cassiopée range of flight data analysis services. This new solution will be a world first for helicopters.

Safran partners with CHC Helicopter for Arriel engine support

Safran Helicopter Engines and CHC Helicopter signed a four-year MRO support contract. This contract formalizes a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul and standard exchanges agreement supporting Arriel 1S, 2S1 and 2S2 engines for CHC's S-76 fleet; and Arriel 2C powering the AS365 Dauphin. Roughly 70 engines are covered by the agreement.

Arriel 2H now ready for service in China

Safran Helicopter Engines has obtained a Validation of Type Certification (VTC) from CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China) for its Arriel 2H engine powering the Avicopter AC312E. A VTC is based on the EASA type certificate (obtained in 2018) and confirms that an imported engine conforms with Chinese airworthiness standards. This Arriel variant was selected in 2015 to power this helicopter developed by AVIC Harbin Aircraft Industry Group, a subsidiary of Avic (Aviation Industry Corporation of China), and certified by EASA in April 2018. The AC312E made its maiden flight in July 2016.

DRF Luftrettung, first customer to use Safran Health Monitoring service with Airbus’ data collection systems

The Health Monitoring service for helicopter engines allows customers to track engine life data and thus reduce unplanned events. Safran signs by-the-hour support contract with Aero Asahi Corporation covering Arriel engines

Safran Helicopter Engines has signed a Support-By-Hour (SBH®) contract with Aero Asahi Corporation, covering engines powering the operator's BK117C2, H125, S-76C+ and AS 365 N3 fleets. This 5-year contract supports a total of 55 Arriel 1 and 2 engines. This agreement is the second 5-year SBH® extension contract signed with this Japanese operator, one of the longest-standing support contracts of this kind (15 years) in the region.

Safran is proud to power the Bell Nexus

Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas - The first application of the Safran Hybrid-Electric Propulsion System (HEPS), the Bell Nexus, is officially unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The propulsion solution of this multi-rotor vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft is capable of producing more than 600 kWe power. During ground tests last June the system produced 100 kWe and further tests will be carried out next year.

Didier Nicoud appointed Safran Helicopter Engines Executive Vice-President, Engineering

Didier Nicoud joined Safran Aircraft Engines in 1987 as an aerodynamics engineer in charge of numerical methods development. In 1992, he fulfilled roles such as Head of the aerodynamics department for high pressure compressors and Head of the fan and booster design department. In 2005, he was appointed Chief Engineer in charge of large engines, the GE90 and GP7200, in cooperation with General Electric.

Airbus Helicopters and Safran roll out major competitiveness boost to H125 and H130

Marignane, Airbus H125 and H130 helicopter customers will get a boost in their operations thanks to a significant reduction in direct maintenance costs for the Safran Arriel 2D engine, which equips both single engines. The two main improvements provided by Safran are the extension of 25 % of the time between overhaul (TBO) to 5,000 hours for new and in-service helicopters, and the new three year/ 2,000 hours warranty conditions – replacing the previous two year/1,000 hours warranty – for all H125 and H130 helicopters delivered in 2018.

Aneto selected to power Airbus Helicopters Racer high-speed demonstrator

​Airbus Helicopters has selected Safran’s new Aneto engine to power its Racer (Rapid and Cost-Efficient Rotorcraft) high-speed demonstrator. Twin Aneto-1X engines will contribute significantly to the new rotorcraft’s cruise speed performance of up to 400 kph. Unveiled in June 2017 at the Paris Airshow, Racer is a technology demonstrator funded by the European Commission’s H2020 research programme, through the Clean Sky 2 initiative.
