Helicopter Industry Implementing Key Safety Practices More Often, Per Latest IHSF Global Survey

The International Helicopter Safety Foundation (www.IHSF.aero) has compiled data from its fourth annual survey of civil helicopter operators located in key regions around the world in order to gain a broader understanding of where safety initiatives are being implemented. Participation in the survey increased by 76 percent compared to a year ago. IHSF received nearly 1,300 responses to the survey from 112 different countries.

A Step Backwards in 2018 for Helicopter Accidents in Key Global Regions

After gathering accident information from countries around the world, the International Helicopter Safety Foundation (www.IHSF.aero) is seeing a temporary setback for the industry’s objective of safer civil helicopter operations. Preliminary 2018 data from 50 countries show a year-over-year increase in fatal accidents and virtually no change in non-fatal accidents. However, the long-term trend remains positive. Fatal accidents during the three-year period of 2016-18 are down 19 percent compared to 2013-15 and non-fatal accidents are down 25 percent when comparing the past three years to the previous three years.

IHSF Will Release U.S. and Worldwide Accident Data on Monday at Heli-Expo 2019

The International Helicopter Safety Foundation (www.IHSF.aero) has gathered 2018 helicopter accident data for 50 countries, including the United States, and will distribute the information at all-hands meetings that will take place at Heli-Expo on Monday, March 4th. At the meetings, helicopter safety experts from around the world will present and summarize 2018 accident data, discuss industry strengths and weaknesses, and highlight actions being taken to improve safety and reduce accidents.
