Hey Guys;

Today I read an order, which tells that I am going to attend a course in Fort Rucker, Alabama. On coming Friday, I must take a listening exam, and If I pass, I will fly to the USA. The course is about Army Aviation Tactics, and it will last for 5 months.( April,  26 th <--> September 29th ).

Well, I can't describe my fellings but I still think that I am in a dream. I am planning to see my friends...

I'll inform about the exam result...I need some practice...

Land safely and see you soon..

CEM

Cem, I have to ask. What is a Listening Test? Man, you're going to have a heck of a time trying to meet with everyone that would love to talk to you and see you in person.

Hey Paul;

How are you my old friend? I hope everything is fine. :) Listening test is an ECL test, I have to get 80 out of 100 points. I would love to talk and meet people I know here in person.

Take care pal..

Cem I will try to make it over to visit you while at Rucker. It is about a 4 hour drive from here but much closer than Turkey! Please keep me advised? Cheers Rocky

Cem,

That's great news. Ok, now there are a few things you have to do while at Ft. Rucker. Here's a list of what I can think of right quick.

1. You will probably visit the Army Aviation Museum so I don't need to tell you to go there.

2. You must go to Pensacola, Florida and visit the Navy's Aviation Museum...that place is awesome, 1,000 times better than Rucker's. Also, plan on spending the night and enjoying Pensacola's night activities along with the beach.

3. If you don't go to Pensacola's beach, go to Panama City's.

4. If you like good coffee, Dakota Coffee Works in Enterprise or Dothan is a good place to get some. The "Snickeroo" coffee is one of their best.

5. Visit the Officer's club on a Friday night, that's really the only night that they are open. You'll meet some fellow Blackhawk pilots there to exchange stories with.

6. Dale's BBQ for lunch one day. They have pretty good BBQ and you'll have eaten at one of the local favorites.

7. Visit a Craker Barrell resturant when you can. This is a taste of some tradional American dishes. I would recommend the "Chicken Fried Steak" with mashed potatos, green beans and carrots. Also, the Blackberry Cobbler is great.

If I can think of anything else I'll post it.

Enjoy your trip.

Cem If you get over to Pensacola to visit the Naval Aviation Museum we can certainly get together. It is only 60 miles from my home in Mobile. Great museum and I have made many visits. They change the displays from time to time so there is nearly always something new. One of the airplanes from my squadron in Korea is on display too. Semper Fi Rocky

Oh, Rocky's just being modest. Although one of his actual squadron's planes is there, I'll bet he's flown most of the types in that museum.

Come to Pcola, Cem! The side trip will definitely be worth it. Plus you'll get to go to lunch with Rocky and me, with the added bonus of watching the competition between us as we see just how long we both can go without picking up the check at the end of the meal. I'm younger- I'm sure I can last longer.

I look forward to meeting you!

Hey Guys;

I had the exam today, there seems no problem. It is time for preparation and listening advices from you. Master, I am sure I am going to visit you and Bob. By the way, Bob, I think that you and Rocky have the youngest souls I have ever known, you are flying !!!   Paul, I need a reservation for a good hair cut, a military type.

Please, let me know if you want something from Turkiye. I ensure you that I'll do my best.

Land safely...

CEM

P.S.: I have many questions, but, I have to gather my mind.

Congrats CEM!!!!

If you can meet Bob and Rocky on a Friday or Saturday then I can also make the drive up from South Florida and join you three!!

This time I will hand deliver your patches since the others continue to get stolen in the mail, :)

Maybe a few other JH folks could join and we could have our first unoffiical JH "The Good Side" conference.

Keep us posted...

The only problem I see is all of you will be about as far across the United States as you can get from me....... Maybe I can get Scotty to "Beam me over"...... Then you all can have the first and only good haircut you've ever had.......

Hey Again;

Thanks for the inputs. Dwaine, how have you been friend? It has been long time since we last talked. I am sure I'll do my best to see all my friends. It has been almost 5 years. Paul, you don't need a Scotty to beam you. I hope there is a plane to embark and visit your barber shop. Nothing could prevent me from visiting you.

Many problems has been solved but the most important issue remains for me is my family. Some of the ex-visitors of Fort Rucker tell me to bring them with me, and the others advise not to. I am really confused.. My wife cannot speak English, and I have a five-year-old-girl who loves to play with her friends. I am unable to figure out if they manage 5 month USA visit. Any consideration will be helpful and thanks in advance.

Land safely and see you soon.

Bring them over---you will regret it if you don't. Your wife will manage, and as for your daughter--there are kids to play with here too---"kids play knows no language".

I just replied to your email Cem, GREAT NEWS !!

Hey guys make that lunch known here in advance and I'll drive over from Dallas. I do the Dallas-Orlando-Dallas drive many times a year since there's so many things to see on the way. I've done it twice already this year and I'll do it again and meet Cem, Rocky, Bob, Paul and everyone else who shows up.  I've already met Dwaine so who cares about him...I'M KIDDING !  Dwaine I just sent you an email and if they can't do it on a weekend I'll have lunch with you and Cem.

Regarding your wife I wouldn't know what to tell you but regarding your 5 y/o not only will she get to play with other kids but just think the English she could learn in 5 months would put you to shame! Kids are sponges and that would help her immensely in the future. I remember my daughter when she was 5 y/o....

Wow this is turning into an international incident! Cem, of course you are welcome in my home with your family and it would be a shame not to bring them to the USA. Rucker has many foreign pilots coming in and they are friendly and helpful in the area. The very few who are not, represent the same small minority, worldwide.
With the distances involved in the USA, (and many simply don't realize it except fpr pilots who often fail to realize), travel plans can get complex. Anyone want to put up a place/time to work on?
Using Ft Rucker and Dothan AL as a pinpoint, what is the radius for a major airport or gathering point and maybe we can work on that basis.
Rucker is 200 miles for me.

Dothan is 752 miles for me if I go directly there from my house. I'm driving so it's not an issue. Just set the date and I'm there !!

Hey Guys;

Thanks for your advices and kind words. Actually, I am not such a guy who likes to talk about himself and his plans. I am sorry If I have made a loud noise. This time it is really different. It is kind of a dream, and it has been almost 5 years I have known you. It is my time to come and see you, My Friends. In a way, this is about the fraternity I believe. Semper fi..

The family issue still remains unclear due to my wife's job.

And I say again, PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT SOMETHING FROM TURKIYE. Surely, I am preparing something for you.

Take care and land safely...

Cem, I'll be the first one to say anything you bring will be accepted because we know it comes from the heart. Just bring a whole lot of anything small and NOT EXPENSIVE ! Just something to for us to remember your FIRST visit, with hopefully more in the future.

I think we have to wait and see your schedule at Rucker before any plans can be made. You have made a number of friends here and many want to meet you in person. Many of us on the forum have been in contact for years and have never met so it could be a great gathering.
I'm looking forward to it.

To Carlos:

Hey Carlos;

Thanks for the advice. You are right, it is coming from my heart, I am just asking if my friends may have heard or known about something to have from Turkiye.

To Rocky:

Hey Master;

Yeah, I'll wait till I learn the course program, and I am going to make plans afterwards. Many of us have been in touch, and maybe this can turn into a chance to gather for an unofficial JH meeting, don't tell Lynn.

I am going for a helicopter mission tomorrow, and fly back to home after 15 days, I am sure I'll have ample time to make the plans. Any contribution is considered great!!!

Land safely friends..

Hi there, I haven't posted here before. But I'm in Rucker right now for flight school. If I were you I'd bring your family as well if you have the choice. Surely you won't be the only person from Turkey here? I don't know the foreign uniforms well, but I see them walking around here very often. You seem pretty popular on here, if you need anything when you get here let me know. Wouldn't mind getting together for a meal sometime. -James

Hey James.Martin;

  Welcome to JH. It is good to know you are in Ft.Rucker now. I have my choice to bring my family, but I have not decided yet. I suppose there are some guys from Turkish Army in the Rucker  at the moment.

  Thanks for your kind words, I believe I have a history here and I really feel a member of JH. Moreover, there are many good people here. They are my friends, I deeply respect them, and I have serious intention to see them after my arrival.

  Well, I may need your help. I sent an e-mail to IMSO about my family. I asked two questions, and did not receive the answers,yet.

   1. Is there any language course they provide  for my wife?
   2. Is there a kindergarten or nursery house for my 5-year-old daughter?

It would be great if you help me about the answers. But, please , your are in flight school and your priority is your flight. And, I am sure you know where we could have a good meal, without pork.

Thanks in advance and land safely..

Hey Cem:

I'm glad that you have the opportunity to visit the United States and Fort Rucker. I live in Enterprise, Alabama just outside the gate from Ft. Rucker although I'm not around very often (I'm in Iraq at the moment).

IMSO plans many great trips for the Foreign Military Students, so if I were you I would take advantage of that opportunity.

If you do bring your family be sure to take your daughter to Disney World. It's a 7 or 8 hour drive but it would be a lifetime memory for her.

Hi Cem,

I did reply to your email.... again, if you find yourself coming to Southern California then let me know and we'll try to get together. Dinner is on me. I'm sure you will have a blast while here in the US. If there's anything I can help you with, just say the word.

Take care,

Hey Ruben;

I am sorry to answer late. I am on a helicopter mission, busy recently. I called the travel agent and he told me that my tickets were reserved for 26th of April. Well, thanks for your courtesy. I am going to bring my family with me, if I find some time,I will plan to visit Yosemite National Park. Do you know where it is ? :)

Take care and thanks again..

Cem Disneyland is about 90 miles north of San Diego, and Yosemite Park is about 250 miles north of San Diego. I have lots of friends in both areas that may help out. The USA is pretty big compared to many places in the world and those who don't travel much tend to forget it. Cheers Rocky

Both of those Rocky mentioned are on the other side of the USA in California but if you're not going to be all the way over there you can always drive down to Disney World, Sea World, Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios, Wide World of Sports, etc. all of them in Orlando Florida, about a 6 hour drive from Rucker.
