For those of you that have been to Ft. Rucker how is Enterprise ? Good place for a family ? The research I have done really looks good. Good schools, housing, and a small town feeling.

I live in Enterprise. Its not a bad area really, like you said good schools, nice housing (relatively expensive real estate market though!). The small ,town is good and bad depending on you. Not much around here if you're used to a "big town", no beer on Sundays, that sort of thing. Between Daleville, Ozark and Enterprise I'd definatly recommend Enterprise. Some people like Dothan, but thats a pretty long drive especially if you're on AM flight line. If you have kids, get a house with a pool because all summer long its too hot to be outside down here otherwise!

I definitely agree. Enterprise, for being a relatively small city, is worlds above living in Daleville or Ozark. While Ozark is right on the highway running between Montgomery and Dothan, it is more "old town" oriented and lacks many of the modern aspects we enjoy. Daleville, though right outside the back gate into Ft. Rucker, looks and acts much like it did when I went to Flight School in 1979. Lots of little strip malls and fastfood restaurants. The high school, if your children are that age, is lacking, as is the grade school. Enterprise just finished and re-opened their new HS, and their overall academic reputation is much better. Plus the Hwy 167 shortcut to Troy makes a run toward Montgomery much faster. Hope this is useful.

Yeah, just finished rebuilding their high school because... a tornado ripped through it and killed 8 kids. R.I.P.
Enterprise gets better with time though. I'm from a large city and I thought I was going to a have a panic attack the first 3 weeks I was here, but I love it now. Honestly love it, I live on post though. My young son and I go fishing and hiking in the woods now instead of having people attempt to car jack me a knife point and getting mugged by a roaming band of homeless people. (Both true stories, thank God for concealed weapons!) Lower Alabama is great and flying here is the best!
