NTSB Final Report: Calhoun, GA

On July 16, 2016, about 1315 eastern daylight time, a Schweizer 269C-1, N6148D, was substantially damaged after it experienced ground resonance while on a taxiway at the Tom B David Field Airport (CZL), Calhoun, Georgia. The commercial pilot and a commercial pilot rated passenger were not injured. The helicopter was being operated under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed for the local flight, which originated about 15 minutes earlier from CZL.

Global Medical Response to Acquire Two FRASCA Helicopter FTDs

Global Medical Response, headquartered in Greenwood Village Colorado, has placed an order for two FRASCA Level 7 Helicopter Flight Training Devices (FTDs), which will support aviation training for two of its air medical operations. Guardian Flight will begin using the Airbus H125 FTD, and Med-Trans Corporation will start using the Bell 407GX FTD for both initial and recurrent pilot training.

NTSB Final Report: Santa Barbara, CA

On May 5, 2017, at 1402 Pacific daylight time, a Robinson R44 helicopter, N981RR, lost engine power and landed hard following an autorotation near Santa Barbara, California. The flight instructor and two passengers sustained serious injuries, and the helicopter was destroyed by post impact fire. The helicopter was registered to Spitzer Helicopter LLC, and operated by Santa Barbara Helicopter Tours, as a revenue sightseeing flight under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan had been filed. The local flight departed Santa Barbara Municipal Airport, Santa Barbara, California, about 1345.

Safran opens new CAP 2020 industrial campus in Tarnos

Safran Helicopter Engines has today celebrated the opening of CAP 2020, its new industrial campus in Tarnos, southwest France. Present were Florence Parly, French Minister of the Armed Forces, Geneviève Darrieussecq, Secretary of State to the Minister of the Armed Forces, Ross McInnes, Safran Chairman, Philippe Petitcolin, Safran CEO and Franck Saudo, President of Safran Helicopter Engines. Launched in September 2015 and after a total investment of 50 M€, CAP 2020 represents a significant upgrade to the Tarnos facility. Now with 1,550 employees, Tarnos is the manufacturer’s second largest facility.

NTSB Final Report: Encino, TX

The purpose of the flight was to capture a bull with a net gun. While the pilot was maneuvering at low altitude, the gunner fired the net at a bull. The net deployed and ensnared the helicopter's skid and the bull. The bull continued to run, dragging the helicopter down, which resulted in the helicopter's collision with terrain.

On January 24, 2020, at 1750 central standard time, a Robinson R22, N8364Y, impacted terrain during landing on field near Charlotte, Texas. The helicopter received substantial damage. The commercial pilot sustained serious injuries. The helicopter was registered to Flying J Services LLC and was operated by the pilot under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight that was not operating on a flight plan. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The flight was originating at the time of the accident and was destined to Jourdanton, Texas.

Fire and Rescue Services equip UAVs with FLARM

An increasing number of Fire and Rescue departments are strengthening their equipment fleets with FLARM-equipped UAVs. The newest addition to the list is “Schutz und Rettung Zürich” (“Fire and Rescue Zurich”). They now operate two DJI Matrice 210 with a FLARM traffic information and collision avoidance system from the company Remote Vision. This makes it possible for them to fly close to airports and in restricted areas where drone traffic is otherwise not allowed.

NTSB Final Report: Girdwood, AK

NTSB Preliminary Report: Calabasas, CA

On January 26, 2020, about 0945 PST, a Sikorsky S76B helicopter, N72EX, crashed into hilly terrain near Calabasas, California. A post impact fire ensued and resulted in a brush fire. The eight passengers and one pilot onboard were fatally injured and the helicopter was destroyed. The helicopter was operated by Island Express Helicopters. Weather at Van Nuys airport, about 14 miles northeast of the site was reported as 1,100 feet overcast with 2 ½ miles visibility. The flight was operated under the provisions of 14 CFR Part 135 under visual flight rules from John Wayne Airport (KSNA), Santa Ana, California, to Camarillo Airport (KCMA), Camarillo, California.
