Sikorsky HH-60W Combat Rescue Helicopter Program Awarded Second Low Rate Initial Production Contract As Flight Tests Progress

ORLANDO, Fla., -- Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company (NYSE: LMT), will build 12 additional HH-60W Combat Rescue Helicopters (CRH) following a second Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) contract award by the U.S. Air Force, known as Lot 2, and valued at over $500 million. The award follows a string of significant program milestones in 2019, including first flight, a Milestone C decision by the Air Force, and award of the first Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) contract for 10 aircraft. The HH-60W is an all-new helicopter based on the proven UH-60M Black Hawk and customized for the U.S. Air Force's rescue mission.

NTSB Preliminary Report: San Andreas, CA

On July 20, 2020, about 0938 Pacific daylight time, a McDonnell Douglas 600N helicopter, N745BW, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near San Andreas, California. The pilot and two passenger/observers were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight.

International helicopter pilot organization, Twirly Birds, will again hold their annual membership meeting in conjunction with the Helicopter Association International (HAI) Heli-Expo in Anaheim, California on Tuesday 28 JAN beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Anaheim Marriott, Orange County Ballroom 3 & 4. General membership qualification requirements are to have flown solo in a helicopter or vertical lift aircraft at least twenty years ago. Membership information is also available on the Twirly Birds website at www.twirlybirds.org and attendance at the annual meeting is not required to become a member.

IHSF received more than 1,900 responses to the survey from 112 different countries. Participation in the survey increased by 49 percent compared to a year ago.

AAMS REQUESTS $363.5M IN EMERGENCY FUNDING TO SUPPORT AIR AMBULANCES COVID-19 Pandemic increases labor costs by 50%

Alexandria, Va. – The Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS), representing the air medical transport industry submitted a letter this week to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar with an urgent request to rapidly distribute money to emergency air medical providers from the Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund. In order to ensure the sustainability of the air ambulance community’s labor force through the challenges of the next six months, air ambulance labor costs will increase by an estimated 50%. AAMS anticipates a total six-month need of $254,424.00 per aircraft, for a total allocation of $363,571,425.00.
