Bell Boeing CMV-22B Osprey Successfully Completes First Flight

AMARILLO, Texas, Jan. 21, 2020 — The first CMV-22B Osprey, built by Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Bell Textron Inc., a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, completed first flight operations at Bell’s Amarillo Assembly Center. The CMV-22B is the latest variant of the tiltrotor fleet, joining the MV-22 and CV-22 used by the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force.

Medical Mounting for Hamilton T1 Ventilator in Airbus H145

(NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced that the GI 275 electronic flight instrument is ready for installation in select Part 27 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-registered helicopters via Field Approval. The GI 275 has completed stringent helicopter vibration and temperature testing, demonstrating it can withstand the harsh operating environments encountered by helicopters. Initial variants approved for installation include the course deviation indicator (CDI), radar altimeter display and the multi-function display (MFD) versions of the GI 275. Follow-on approval of the GI 275 as a replacement for the attitude indicator and horizontal situation indicator (HSI) via STC is expected in Q4 2020.

ASU Selected to provide Fixed-Wing NVG training for FAA Flight Standards Operation Inspectors and Aircraft Certification Pilots

(BOISE, Idaho — July 9, 2020) Aviation Specialties Unlimited, (ASU) was awarded the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Flight Standards Operations Inspectors and Aircraft Certification Pilots night vision goggle (NVG) contract while operating fixed-wing aircraft. ASU will provide both initial training and recurrent training to FAA beginning July 1, 2020. ASU initially began training the FAA in 2017, when they were awarded the first fixed-wing training contract. ASU first started training FAA pilots on helicopters in 2007.

NTSB Preliminary Report: Wooster, OH

On July 4, 2020, about 1357 eastern daylight time (EDT), an Airbus Helicopter BK117, N263MH, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at Wayne County Airport (KBJJ), Wooster, Ohio. NTSB Preliminary Report: Lihue, HI

On December 26, 2019, about 1657 Hawaii standard time, an Airbus AS350 B2 helicopter, N985SA, was destroyed by impact forces and a postcrash fire when it collided with terrain about 24 miles northwest of Lihue, Hawaii. The commercial pilot and six passengers were fatally injured. The helicopter was registered to SAF LTD and operated by Safari Aviation Inc., doing business as Safari Helicopters, as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 135 on-demand commercial air tour flight. Company flight following procedures were in effect for the visual flight rules flight, which departed Lihue Airport (PHLI), Lihue, Hawaii at 1631.

Appareo Releases Major Upgrade to Web-Based Flight Data Analysis Software

FARGO, North Dakota (May 18, 2020) — Appareo today released a major architectural upgrade to Appareo EnVision, the company’s analysis software system for Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) or Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) programs. Appareo EnVision is a web-based application that allows fleet operators to access past and current flight data, generate detailed reports, and trend the safety improvements in their operations. Prior to this release, the software accepted flight data captured by Appareo’s Vision 1000 cockpit recorder.
