NTSB Final Report: King City, CA

The helicopter pilot reported that, while conducting an agricultural application flight, he planned to fly over the top of a power pole. He applied full-up collective to climb over the pole, but the helicopter struggled to gain altitude. He added that, after the helicopter cleared the pole, the main rotor speed reduced and the helicopter "quit flying," so he decided to conduct a run-on landing on the field. The helicopter landed hard, and the main rotor blades struck the tailboom. The helicopter sustained substantial damage to the tailboom. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the helicopter that would have precluded normal operation.

NTSB Preliminary Report: Minot, ND

On January 22, 2020, about 1332 central standard time, a Bell 407 helicopter, N947LH, impacted a helipad perimeter fence during a landing near Minot, North Dakota. The pilot, the sole occupant, was not injured and the helicopter sustained substantial damage. The helicopter was registered to and operated by Executive Air Taxi Corp under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a positioning flight. Day visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight.

German HEMS operator DRF Luftrettung expands its H145 and H135 fleet

Anaheim, 28 January 2020 – Airbus Helicopters and DRF Luftrettung have signed a contract for the purchase of 15 new H145s, three H135s and the retrofit of their current 20 H145s to the five-bladed version. This will bring the H145 fleet of the German Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) to 35 helicopters, making them the biggest operator of the five-bladed H145 in the world. The contract, booked in 2019, also renews DRF’s HCare smart contract, a full support parts-by-the-hour contract for DRF’s entire fleet for the next eight years.

NTSB Final Report: Calhoun, GA

On July 16, 2016, about 1315 eastern daylight time, a Schweizer 269C-1, N6148D, was substantially damaged after it experienced ground resonance while on a taxiway at the Tom B David Field Airport (CZL), Calhoun, Georgia. The commercial pilot and a commercial pilot rated passenger were not injured. The helicopter was being operated under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed for the local flight, which originated about 15 minutes earlier from CZL.

ASHBURN, Va. – April 6, 2020 – Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions division, a trusted leading supplier of rugged data storage and protection solutions, announced today that its Data Transport System (DTS1) Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, the embedded industry’s first commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) data-at-rest (DAR) storage solution to support two layers of full disk encryption (FDE) in a single device, has been fully tested and validated for operation at the extended -45º to +85ºC operating temperature range per MIL-STD-810G methods and procedures. This qualification makes the DTS1 ideal for use in the harshest deployed military environments, including high altitude, long endurance (HALE) UAS platforms that must operate as high as 40,000 ft. The DTS1 is the only Common Criteria certified NAS solution endorsed by the NSA and approved by NATO with two certified encryption layers.
